While you are enjoying Mr. Preiss' take on himself and his writing, let this be said from a publicist's point of view:
Thomas Preiss writes from his heart, both as a father in the wonderful tales he penned for children ages 4 to 8/9, and as a normal man on a rough journey toward enlightenment in his new novel, The Hassayampa King, to be released soon. Most will relate to the story, which follows the wisdom that states without pain, there is no transformation. Yet with this story, it is plain to see the beauty that captures the protagonist's life and moves him toward that moment of truth, a shocking apex that brings him full-circle, next to a river full of the answers he has sought.
The Boat Under the Boat is about the Golden Rule, demonstrated in this imaginative tale between a boy and his reflection. With Duke, his dad, Donny discovers a new friend in his reflection, found in the mirror-like images on the surface of a lake. The story makes a bold statement; the child that demonstrates great self-worth will find the world is worth the effort as well. Self-worth (not to be confused with self-esteem) utilizes common sense, loyalty, courage honesty, and friendship - the cornerstones of the Golden Rule - to help a child understand what is expected of him or her each day. This book introduces the Golden Rule to a child in a unique way, through the eyes of his/her own reflection.
The Other Side of the Window reminds our children that there are other things to do besides play with video games. This story is a must in any home with video game machines in play. The story is about a child utilizing her or her own imagination again. The video game culture has supplanted this all important childhood experience, turning millions of unique thought processes and interactions with outdoor elements into limited main stream pop culture, thus, sending our children and their imaginations down a cow-chute. This book will help children acquaint their minds to their imaginations, improving the quality of their childhood experiences.
Thomas Preiss, a resident of Gold Canyon, Arizona, writes from his home near the Superstition Mountains. He is the managing editor of the Gold Canyon Ledger, a well-received, arts and news magazine published monthly by the Association for the Development Of a Better Environment, a non-profit organization focused on controlled development of Gold Canyon and the surrounding natural beauty of the Superstition Mountains. He owns Peralta Publishing and Printing, LLC, a company put into operation primarily to publish his books. "If I am to self-publish," he states, "then let me truly self-publish." His books are hand-made, in his home, using the perfect-bind method to construct them. He does graphic design and belongs to a wholesale printing cooperative that allows his company to handle any size printing job. He is an avid mountain biker with the broken ribs to prove it. He is married to Mary Lynn, a workout and nutritional guru who sings like an angel and plays the flute too.
